Hot AC Christmas Music?

Post by radiodj55 » Sun Nov 28, 2010 9:27 pm

Curious to see what everybody thinks about Christmas Music on Hot AC's?

We're a Hotter Hot AC and doing the slow approach to Christmas...1 an hour, increasing weekly. Our company is big on the "Safe" Christmas songs...Nat King Cole, Burl Ives, etc. Eurythmics and Band Aid are about as "Hot" as the Christmas gets. I definitely think we need to play those, but I also think we should be playing more of the Plain White T's, Ashley Tisdale, Taylor Swift, American Idols, etc. The stuff that fits with the Ke$ha and Gaga we are playing the crap out of.

Actually, the same issue we faced. We are playing Hotter Hot HAC. We think to play some very famous artists for the last two weeks of the year. With this point, we can encourage the sense of new year with music of the radio. American Idols are good choices, i think. But,still we got some question marks in our mind...

I agree...stick as close to the format as possible. And compelling breaks become more important than ever, to hold them through the songs that may not resonate...

Stay away from Christmas music. Just stay away from Christmas music, period. Christmas music skews old, you'll never get anything hotter than possibly Josh Groban (although I hear the Goo Goo Dolls have a new Christmas album out).

In my area, I stick exclusively to either 98.7 Simon or 96.1 BBB (the two Adult Hits stations) because they don't play Xmas music 24/7 starting in November like my AC station does (99.5 WMAG).
